New joint civil society report to the UN Human Rights Council

For the third time, DRC Danish Refugee Council has contributed to a joint civil society report to the UN Human Rights Council ahead of Denmark's next Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in May 2026. At the so-called 'UPR', UN member states evaluate each other's human rights situation, and the report from the Danish organizations contains a wide range of recommendations on how Denmark can strengthen rights protection and ensure that international standards are fully implemented in practice.

DRC Danish Refugee Council has been leading on the subject of 'Refugees and asylum seekers' and in the report, DRC Danish Refugee Council wanted to focus on the human rights issues relating to Denmark's use of detention of asylum seekers, the conditions at return centers, family reunification for children over 15 and access to citizenship for stateless persons and refugees. In addition, the report contains recommendations regarding the treatment of LGBT+ cases in the asylum system and in family reunification cases.
