OKDB TEDANRO, for enhanced social protection.

Thanks to funding from the European Union Delegation in Burkina Faso, the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), ASMADE, Tond Laafi, and HELVETAS Consortium is implementing the OKDB Tedanro project, ‘Support for the development of basic social services in the Centre-West and Boucle du Mouhoun regions.’ This multi-year project aims to provide an appropriate response to the problems of access to basic social services for vulnerable populations. 36,320 people, including 19,184 women, will directly benefit from the project's actions between December 2023 and November 2027.

Complementary expertise for enhanced social protection

Each member of the consortium brings its own expertise to the project. As a result

The Danish Refugee Council is the lead partner in the consortium. As a humanitarian protection actor in Burkina Faso, the DRC works to strengthen the protective environment and access to rights for target communities. A protective environment refers to a physical, social, emotional or psychological context that promotes the well-being and development of individuals. To this end, DRC implements technical and material capacity building measures for social action, as well as case referrals for care by social services.

ASMADE is co-leader of the Consortium with DRC. With its extensive experience in the field and its collaboration with mutual health organisations, ASMADE helps to improve access to medical and social services for vulnerable populations. To this end, it is strengthening the capacities of stakeholders in the operation of the Single Social Register (RSU) and the mutual insurance system in conjunction with microfinance institutions (MFIs) in the intervention zone.

Tond Laafi, as a mutual health organisation, works with MFIs to develop access to health and medical-social services for programme beneficiaries and strengthen the capacities of ASMADE and its network of community mutuals with regard to linking the mutual system to microcredit mechanisms.

Helvetas facilitates the economic integration of vulnerable people through its professional integration programme by stimulating the business market in the intervention area on the one hand, and by setting up and supporting individual professional projects for vulnerable people on the other.

An integrated humanitarian protection approach

This approach focuses on consortium members and external actors. As part of this approach, consortium actors establish links between their respective areas of activity to enable as many beneficiaries as possible to access other services within the consortium. For example, beneficiaries of case conferences could benefit from integration into mutual health schemes and, ultimately, vocational training. In addition to referrals within the consortium based on the mapping of external actors, certain external actors will be called upon to take charge of beneficiaries in sectors not covered by the project. OKDB Tedanro intends to form a support ecosystem in which each link, whether an institution, a community actor or an external partner, plays an essential role in improving the social protection of beneficiaries.
