Predictive analysis

Videos: Presentations of our work

Below are some videos from presentations on our experiences with predictive analytics over the past several years.

Is it possible to predict future forced displacement?

Is it possible to accurately predict how many people will be forcibly displaced in the future? If so, how might this help aid responses? In this episode of Fixing Aid, host Alae Ismail speaks to the Danish Refugee Council about the prediction tool they’ve developed with tech company IBM. Exploring both its potential and its limitations, she also hears from a Sahelian pastoralist organisation and a Syrian campaigner about the implications more precise forecasting has for providing better aid to people in need.

Learning from predictive analytics

The role of predictive analytics in the context of uncertainty and the humanitarian system. This video was part of a series of pre-recorded interviews shown at the 2020 ALNAP Meeting.

Lessons Learned from Predicting Forced Displacement

This session was part of the 2021 Emerging Technologies in Peacebuilding and Prevention Virtual Practitioners Workshop hosted by the NYU Center on International Cooperation on December 1-2, 2021. This talk highlights the key lessons learned from using machine learning models to predict forced displacement both at the national and sub-national level.
